At least 6 months from your planned entry date. Vietnam uses the printed expiry date on your passport. Renew at your local mairie (town hall) or prefecture before applying. Standard renewal takes 2 to 3 weeks; rush options exist for travel emergencies.

Check the Centre de vaccinations internationales nearest you, or the Institut Pasteur travel medicine service. Routine vaccinations should be current. Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Tetanus are commonly recommended. Japanese Encephalitis or Rabies for rural travel. Some are partially Securite Sociale-reimbursed.

Juillet and aout are French peak holiday months but coincide with Vietnam's monsoon in central and northern regions. Stick to southern beach destinations like Phu Quoc or Mui Ne if you must travel then. Toussaint (late October), February break, and Easter are better windows for the full country.
