Vietnam eVisa for UK Citizens

Yes. UK passport holders must have a Vietnam eVisa before travel. The 90-day eVisa replaces the older visa-on-arrival route for tourist and business trips.

The eVisa attaches to your passport, not your departure airport, so it works from any UK airport. Direct Vietnam flights from MAN, EDI, or BHX do not exist. Best 1-stop options: Qatar via Doha, Emirates via Dubai, Etihad via Abu Dhabi, or KLM via Amsterdam.

Yes. The classic UK two-week itinerary: 3 nights Hanoi, 1 night Halong Bay cruise, fly to Hoi An (3 nights), then Saigon (2 nights) plus a Mekong Delta day trip. Add buffer days for the Heathrow red-eye home. Multiple Entry is only needed if you are popping over to Cambodia or Thailand.

At least 6 months from your planned entry date. Vietnam uses the printed expiry date on your passport, so the post-Brexit '10-year from issue' rule does not change anything for Vietnam (that affects EU travel). If your passport is close to the 6-month threshold, renew through the UK Passport Office before applying.

Check NHS Fit for Travel (fitfortravel.nhs.uk) for current guidance. Routine jabs (DTP, MMR, polio) are NHS-funded. Travel-specific ones often are not: Hepatitis A and Typhoid are commonly recommended, Japanese Encephalitis or Rabies for rural travel. NHS travel clinics cover some at no cost. Private clinics like Nomad or Boots Travel charge a per-jab fee for the rest.

Tet is the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, late January to mid-February. Many businesses and attractions close for several days. UK February half-term often coincides with Tet, which means flights and hotels spike in price and book out fast. If you are locked into half-term dates, book Vietnam early or pick October half-term instead.
